About Freemasonry

Tradition with a place in modern life

Freemasonry is one of the world's oldest social and charitable organisations. It brings people together around shared values, self-development, friendship and charitable service.

What happens in a lodge?

Members meet in a structured setting that combines traditional ceremonies, lodge business, learning and fellowship. Meetings are normally followed by a meal and time to socialise.

Do I need to know a Freemason to join?

No. If you are interested, you can make an enquiry directly. The lodge can arrange an informal conversation so you can ask questions and find out whether Freemasonry is right for you.

Is Freemasonry a religion?

No. Freemasonry is not a religion and does not replace a member's faith. Membership requirements and the formal process can be explained during an initial enquiry.

Is charity important?

Yes. Charitable giving and practical support for communities are long-standing parts of Freemasonry, both through local lodges and the wider organisation.
